Patriot Farm Boston Terriers: Cuteness Overload

Patriot Farm Boston Terriers

Known around the world as the “American Gentleman." The Boston Terrier is the first American-created breed to be registered with the American Kennel Club. They have caught the attention of Mane ‘n Tail ambassador and professional horseman Denny Chapman. We could not help but fall in love with the puppy pictures!

Breeding Boston Terriers was not on Denny’s “to-do” list. His primary career was horses and mounted shooting. It wasn’t until his wife, Lori Chapman decided to rekindle her love for the sport of purebred dogs that he became interested in breeding.

After hearing Denny and Lori Chapman's story about how they got started in breeding Boston Terriers, we had to share it with you! The story proves even the less traditional colored dogs can finish as champions!

How did you get started in showing and breeding dogs?

“In 1992, while I was walking through the mall, I saw a dog in the window of a pet store that would change my life.  It was a Miniature Pinscher. I put the dog on hold and went home to research the breed and to find a private breeder to buy a dog from. I called several AKC show breeders who lived within 80 miles of me, none were willing to help me get started at the time.”

Taking the Road Less Traveled

“So against all odds, I started out on my own and bought the ‘doggie in the window.’ We competed right alongside the pros.  He became a Champion relatively quickly despite being handled by a novice.  His name was AKC CH Wilkums Rockafella, aka “Rocky”.  He was a stellar example of a Min Pin.”

A Natural Born Champion

“Rocky went on to become my first AKC Champion. I went on to become Chairman of one of the Empire Miniature Pincher Club’s Specialty Shows at the Pier in NYC preceding Westminster and to Judge of one of their Specialty shows as well.”

Why Boston Terriers?

“I knew that after I married Professional Horseman and dog enthusiast, Denny Chapman, I would again be able to explore my deepest passion for breeding dogs.  The master plan involved finding the right location.  In May of 2018 we found a farm in Weirsdale, Florida. The home we chose was owned by an AKC Judge and breeder. It was completely dog and horse ready so our decision was easy.”

First American Developed Breed

“We are a very patriotic family. The decision to go with the Boston Terrier breed was further solidified when we realized how sweet, smart, empathic and endearing they are. We found a breeder willing to sell me a few Boston Terriers from her program. She gave me breeder support in my first year!  Since in my previous breed I had success with the non-traditional colors, embracing the diversity in the Boston Terrier was an easy decision. I chose to start with a brindle, a seal, a chocolate and a blue… Patriot Farm Boston Terriers was born July 4th 2018.”

Have you shown your Boston Terriers?

“We show in two different associations. Our original colored Boston’s, such as the blues and chocolates, show in IABCA (International All-Breed Canine Association of America). We show our traditional Boston Terriers in AKC shows.”

Hard Work Pays Off

“Some of our IABCA show titles include, Best In Show Puppy, Bred by Exhibitor, Reserve Best in Show Puppy, Reserve best family, along with several championship titled dogs. Patriot Farm’s first AKC show was November 1st, 2019. Patriot Farm’s Independence Day, aka “Indy”
